Multiworks was engaged to lead the long-term remediation and redevelopment of the former James Hardie asbestos processing facility, a 15-hectare site requiring specialist management due to the presence of underlying contamination. Delivered over a seven-year period, the project involved the staged transformation of the site into a fully functional industrial park while maintaining environmental controls and minimising ground disturbance.
Project Description
The works were designed to encapsulate contamination beneath the site surface and create stable, serviceable infrastructure suitable for long-term commercial use. Multiworks coordinated closely with environmental consultants and regulators to ensure the delivery of compliant outcomes across all stages of the project.
Scope of works included:
- Installation of approximately 20,000 m² of geotextile separation fabric
- Importation, placement, and compaction of 150,000 tonnes of engineered fill
- Construction of 3,500 m² of reinforced concrete road pavements
- Spreading and compaction of 10,000 tonnes of recycled concrete hardstand
- Construction of 7,000 m² of engineered concrete hardstand for heavy vehicle use
- Delivery of sitewide drainage infrastructure, underground services, and landscaping
Following completion of the primary works, Multiworks has continued to manage and maintain the site’s buildings and infrastructure, supporting ongoing tenancy and ensuring the long-term integrity of the rehabilitated land.
