Located near Kerang in north-west Victoria, the Koorangie Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is a key project within the Murray River Renewable Energy Zone (REZ). Developed by Edify Energy and connected to AusNet’s 220kV transmission network, the 185 MW / 370 MWh system is designed to support system strength and enable the integration of up to 300 MW of new renewable energy in the region.

Project Description

Multiworks was engaged by Consolidated Power Projects (CPP) to deliver civil works for the BESS, including site preparation, battery foundations, in-ground services, and critical conduits. All works were completed to strict tolerances under a compressed delivery program, ensuring timely installation of Tesla Megapack units and associated grid-forming infrastructure.

In parallel, Multiworks also delivered the civil and structural components of the adjoining Koorangie Terminal Station under a separate contract with Zinfra. The terminal station works included the transformer bay, control building foundations, and fire walls, supporting the connection of the BESS to the broader transmission network.

The overall works delivered by Multiworks at Koorangie encompassed:

  • 32,000 m² of bulk earthworks
  • Over 14,000 m of conduit installation
  • 300 concrete foundations
  • 160 piles

Delivered concurrently under separate contracts, both projects contribute to Victoria’s energy storage capacity and the ongoing stability of the state’s renewable electricity grid.
