As a key partner in AusNet Services’ landmark Edison Project, Multiworks played a major role in upgrading and replacing aging electrical infrastructure at the Richmond, Brunswick, and West Melbourne terminal stations. These critical upgrades introduced new technologies to meet the growing power demands of Melbourne’s expanding inner suburbs.

Project Description

The Richmond Terminal Station, Project Edison’s largest and first site underwent a complex, multi-phase transformation, delivered in 14 carefully sequenced stages over seven years. Throughout the entire project, Multiworks ensured uninterrupted electricity supply to the network, including Melbourne’s CBD.
Initially engaged by AusNet Services in 2012 under a lump sum contract valued at $8.3 million, Multiworks went on to deliver over $100 million worth of works on site, including:
  • Construction of new 66kV GIS switchrooms and control rooms (2-stage)
  • Delivery of a new 220kV GIS switchroom and control room, plus approximately six transformer bays
  • Installation of new feeder connections linking existing and new switchyards, control buildings, internal roads, and switchrooms
  • Monopole footing installations
  • Demolition of outdated 220kV and 66kV switchyards

This major infrastructure investment future-proofed Melbourne’s energy network, setting a new standard for reliability and innovation in power delivery.
