VIVA Energy initiated the Strategic Storage Project to construct four new tanks capturing 90 million litres of diesel storage as part of the Federal Government’s plans to boost Australia’s Diesel Storage Program. Multiworks, working under mechanical and tank builder Brockman Engineering, were responsible for all civil works associated with this project including bulk earthworks, remediation, tank foundations and over 1,000m of concrete in-situ bund wall over 4m in height.
Works included
- 1km bund wall over 4m in height
- Major earthworks associated with the 62,500m2 area within the bund
- Remediation of significant volumes of contaminated soils
- Tank foundations
- Concrete in-situ bund walls over 4m in height
- Footings, pits and drainage
- Roads and paving
- Construction of access ramps, bund sumps
- External roads in the ‘Greenfield’ area
The project posed multifaceted challenges, spanning tank foundations, concrete bund walls, pipe supports, and a wide range of civil works, including access ramps, drainage, and roads. The project also faced intense timeline constraints as work was required to be completed in time for the government subsidy to be obtained. Despite a significant increase in the scope, namely in contaminated soil remediation, Multiworks was able to accelerate the program by over 2 months.
