Working within Toll’s primary chemical storage facility in Laverton, Multiworks were required to excavate and replace over 3000 m2 of engineered concrete paving. The site was to remain functional at all times and as such the works were broken into 3 stages. Straddle cranes, forklifts and delivery trucks frequent the site and hence interruptions to the sites operations were to be minimised as much as possible.
Multiworks worked closely with both Toll and Goodman to achieve an acceptable staging of works that minimised the impact on site operations and also returned the facility to full capacity as soon as possible. The project’s scope included:
- Saw-cutting, excavation and removal of redundant concrete.
- Testing of groundwater and soil.
- Engineering and sign-off of reinforcement design.
- New engineered concrete paving, approximately 3000m2
- Saw cutting of construction joints and corking.
- 3 Stages of work.
- Concrete testing.
- Reinstatement of line-marking and bollards.
Multiworks successfully completed 95% of works at the new Cranbourne Zone Substation two months ahead of schedule. This was achieved despite 45 days lost due to wet weather.
Project scope involved:
- Construction of new heavy-duty access roads capable of carrying the load of the new transformers
- Benching of new substation site with 22,000m3 of fill and compact to 98%
- Construction of over 400m3 of reinforced concrete foundations for new primary plant and buildings
- Installation of conduits
- Installation of environmental runoff tank and bund walls to radiator foundation
- Installation of new septic tank
- Construction and installation of asphalt roadway, kerbing and bollards.
Working under a schedule of rates contract, Multiworks have been responsible for the upgrading of Cawley Industrial Park over the past 12 years. Originally a manufacturing plant the 35,000m2 of industrial building required substantial refurbishment including:
- Repair of over 3000m2 of industrial pavement.
- Recladding of buildings.
- Maintenance of drainage, fire and electrical systems.
- Creation of new landscaped areas and parking.
- Creation of new internal offices and amenities.
This 4.5 hectare site in Coburg was originally used by Austrim Nylex for the manufacturing of plastic automotive components. Prior to the creation of a new public access road and subdivision into 36 industrial allotments, the site required extensive remediation of the contaminated soil and groundwater. The remediation process involved:
- Removal and disposal of 30 underground storage tanks and associated product lines.
- Removal of asbestos and demolition of approximately 5,000m2 of disused industrial buildings.
- Excavation, remediation and reinstatement of over 40,000m3 of contaminated soil.
- On site crushing and recycling of all concrete.
- Facilitation and supervision of contaminated ground water with vacuum enhanced extraction technology.
- Installation and commissioning of active skimming pumps
Multiworks was responsible for the remediation and conversation of the 15 hectare James Hardie asbestos processing facility. The conversion of the site into a industrial park was undertaken over 7 years and required special care in not disturbing the underlying contamination. The works included;
- Installation of approximately 20,000m2 of geotextile fabric.
- The importation and compaction of approximately 150,000 tonnes of engineered fill.
- Construction of 3,500m2 of reinforced concrete road pavement.
- Spreading and compacting of 10,000 tonne of recycled concrete hardstand.
- Construction of 7,000m2 of engineered concrete hardstand
- Significant drainage, electrical and landscaping works.
Multiworks now has since managed and maintained the buildings and land.
The security upgrade works at Bendigo Terminal Station included procurement, installation and commissioning of 1.2km of security fencing. The fence upgrade was complex due to the site’s multiple underground services beneath the boundary line.
Multiworks obtained all permits on time and ensured the works were executed without interruption to the electrical network. The project achieved zero safety incidents.
Multiworks was engaged by Ausnet Services as Principal Contractor to replace non-compliant station security fences, signage and gates within zone substations at Moe, Ringwood, Warrigal, Sale, Nagambie and Watsonia.
Upgrade works involving these fences are inherently complex due to the existence of multiple underground services beneath the substation’s boundary line.
Multiworks obtained all permits in a timely manner to ensure the works were executed without interruption to the electrical network. Multiworks completed the works two months ahead of schedule and achieved zero safety incidents.
Multiworks was responsible for the design, procurement and installation of 700m of security fencing at the Mount Beauty Terminal Station. This involved the mobilisation of internal crews to undertake the installation of fencing and to establish the pit and pipework for future electrics. The fence upgrade works were complex due to the number of underground services beneath the substations’ boundary line. Multiworks obtained all permits in a timely manner and executed the works without interruption to the electrical network. The project achieved zero safety incidents.
This project for the Department of Defence involved the installation of new fencing works at RAAF Base Laverton, RAAF Williams Point Cook Base, HMAS Cerberus and Ringwood East Depot. Involving over 2.4km of fencing, most of which high security, was heavily involved with local stakeholders and required thorough planning.
Part of these works also involved the installation of fencing within tidal zones and working on shorelines up-to 4 meters deep. The fence was constructed utilising screw piles and a Multisteel designed baseplate.
