Richmond Terminal Station Upgrade Wins at the 2022 Master Builders Victoria Awards

Multiworks is proud to share that the Richmond Terminal Station Upgrade won the Excellence in Civil Construction award at the 2022 Master Builders Victoria Excellence in Construction Awards.

Delivered as part of Victoria’s critical power infrastructure renewal program, the project involved complex staged works within a fully operational 220kV substation in Richmond, Melbourne.

Delivering Critical Works Without Interrupting Supply

Over seven years, Multiworks completed 14 sequential construction stages while maintaining uninterrupted power supply to Melbourne’s CBD. The upgrade required detailed planning, strict safety controls, and close coordination with network stakeholders to safely deliver works in a live high-voltage environment.

Innovation in a Constrained Brownfield Site

The project demanded specialist construction methodologies and innovative temporary works solutions to protect critical assets and meet strict outage and commissioning requirements.

Key innovations included custom systems to support live cables during excavation, reinforced protection barriers during demolition, and specialised foundation techniques in confined work zones.
